Gasoline prices are dropping fast throughout St. Lawrence County.

The lowest price for a gallon of gas in St. Lawrence County on Friday appears to be $3.55, at the Nice N Easy on Main Street in Canton, as reported by GasBuddy.com,

That’s more than 30 cents per gallon less than the price just a couple of months ago.

The next-lowest price, according to GasBuddy, is $3.59, at the Mobil station in Canton and the Nice N Easy in Ogdensburg,

The highest price, as reported, is at the Stewarts and Mobil stations in Gouverneur, at $3.79 per gallon.

GasBuddy indicates that the price has been coming down over the last few months.

But as of today, New Yorkers are paying about 50¢ more per gallon than the average buyer in the U.S. as a whole.

The U.S. average is about $3.25 per gallon; the New York average is about $3.75 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.

The only state with a higher average gas price is Hawai`i, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. They are paying nearly $3.95 per gallon on average.

The list is not a complete survey of every station in the county, but reflects what GasBuddy's reporters have submitted to the web site in the last 36 hours.

The trend over the last three months has been generally down: in Syracuse, the nearest city area tracked by GasBuddy, the price has come down from $4.07 to $3.60 per gallon since mid-October.

These prices presumably have not accounted for the usual extra nine-tenths of a cent that the federal government permits motor fuel retailers to add to the price per gallon.
