GardenShare annual fundraiser sets record by raising nearly $10,000 to fight hunger in St. Lawrence County

HANNAWA FALLS -- GardenShare organizers say their eighth annual fundraising dinner and auction, was a sold-out success with over 100 attendees and a record-breaking $10,000 raised.

The event was held Tuesday, June 6 at Jake’s on the Water in Hannawa Falls.

In addition to dinner tickets, funds were raised from business sponsors and from a silent auction. A new record of $9,718 was raised to support GardenShare’s anti-hunger and local food work in St. Lawrence County. Last year the event raised $5,783.

“We are so grateful to everyone who helped make this event such a success,” said GardenShare Executive Director Gloria McAdam. “Jake’s put together a phenomenal menu with their exemplary presentation and service. A great team of volunteers handled the auction from beginning to end. We are so grateful to everyone – Jake’s, volunteers, those who purchased tickets, those who donated or purchased auction items, and our business sponsors. These funds will go directly to support GardenShare’s work to help low-income people access local, fresh food.”

GardenShare has worked to end hunger and strengthen our local food system since 1996.

Originally formed as a network of gardeners sharing their extra harvest with local food pantries, GardenShare has since embraced a larger vision for the region, which is summarized in the slogan, "Healthy Food, Healthy Farms, Everybody Eats."
