Many family members, friends participated in funeral services for North Lawrence family and friend killed in fiery Antwerp accident

Many family members and friends participated in combined funeral services this week for the North Lawrence family and friend killed in a fiery rear-end collision July 19 in Antwerp.

Funeral services for Laurie Dana, 42, her daughters Caitlyn Dana, 14, and Lauryn Dana, 11, and her sister-in-law, Janet Dana, 69, were held Tuesday at St. Mary’s Church, Brushton, with the Rev. Christopher Looby celebrating and the Rev. Gerry Giroux con celebrating.

The funeral pall was placed over Laurie, Caitlyn and Lauryn’s casket by her husband Jeffrey and her parents and grandparents Robert (Marlene) McCarthy, and Mary (Carl) Garrand.

The pall was positioned over Janet’s casket by her husband Donald, and children Beth Kemp and Alan Dana.

Dale Chapin shared from the Old Testament, and Lorna Noreault read from the New Testament. Sacred gifts of bread and wine were presented to the alter by Micaela McCarthy , Colby McCarthy.

Rachel Ghostlaw, Dale Chapin, and Alan Dana gave a beautiful eulogy, sharing stories as well as words of comfort.

Janet’s pallbearers were James Noreault, Richard Noreault, Scott Noreault, James Noreault, Sue Roabideau, and Linda Desnoyers. Laurie, Caitlyn and Lauryn’s pallbearers were Danny Mills, Richard Boleski, John McCarthy, Andrew McCarthy, Jay Tannahill, and Paul Laugdon.

Arrangements were with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Shannon M. Planty, 14, a friend of Caitlyn Dana’s who was in the car at the time of the crash, was held Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church, with the Rev. Looby presiding.

Her family placed the funeral pall over Shannon’s casket.

Brent Supernault read from the Old Testament, and Jordon read from the New Testament. Christian and Melissa presented the alter with the sacred gifts of bread and wine.

Shannon’s pallbearers were Blaine Planty, Kevin Planty, Cory Planty, Scott Gervais, Sam Sturgen and Cory Sturgen.

Arrangements were with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.

State police say a 2012 Volvo tractor-trailer, driven by 45-year-old, James A. Mills Jr. of Myerstown, Penn., was southbound when it rear-ended several vehicles from behind who were either slowing down or stopped in the construction zone just south of Dickson Road.

The preliminary investigation indicates the tractor-trailer struck at least three vehicles, including:

• a 2007 Subaru Forester, driven by 59-year-old, Maryann D. Gregory from 1487 State Route 11B, Dickinson Center, who was transported to E.J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur, for severe head and chest injuries and later died from her injuries.

• a 2012 Toyota RAV 4, driven by Laurie M. Dana, who, along with passengers Catelyn Dana, 14, Lauren Dana, 11, Janet Dana, 69. and Shannon Planty, 14, who were all killed in the crash.

• a 2009 Ford F350 NYS Department of Transportation truck, driven by 44-year-old, Lewis L. Lottie Jr. from Nicholville, who was transported by LifeNet Helicopter to University Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for head and chest trauma. He was listed in critical condition.

The traffic on State Route 11 was being stopped due to a repaving project being performed by Barrett Paving.
