POTSDAM – Potsdam police, firefighters and rescue squad will provide a funeral procession for the late Ruth Garner.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Garner Funeral Home.

Burial will be celebrated by Father Stephen Rocker Monday Oct. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church.

A funeral procession including the Village of Potsdam's Fire Department, Rescue Squad, and Police Department will travel south on Lawrence Avenue, west on Elm Street, south on Market Street, east on Main Street, then south on Pierrepont Avenue to St. Mary's Cemetery immediately following the service.

“It is this agency's honor to pay respect to such a distinguished champion for our area. Ruth will always be remembered as a courageous, empathetic leader who always put others before herself, fighting fiercely for causes she believed in and leading the way for women in leadership. She will be greatly missed,” Chief Mark Murray said in a released statement.
