POTSDAM -- The funeral of 12-year-old Garrett Phillips of Potsdam will be held this morning at Knapp's Station Community Church, and burial in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Parishville will follow.
Potsdam police say leads in their investigation into the death of the Potsdam middle-schooler are continuing to develop, but have released no new information to the public.
Meanwhile a news conference that had been scheduled for this morning was cancelled out of respect for Garrett Phillips' family and the funeral this morning.
The police department had announced they would hold a news conference at 10:30 this morning, but cancelled it couple of hours later.
The announcement from the department said:
"Out of respect of the family of Garrett Phillips, the Potsdam Police will not hold a press conference on Friday, October 28, at 10:30am during his funeral hours. Leads and evidence continue to develop on an hourly basis and need to be addressed as they are developed. The Police Department continues to gather new information that is critical to this investigation and only information that does not compromise the integrity of the investigation will be released. The press will be contacted when this information is available."
Garrett was found unconscious Monday afternoon in the apartment he shared with his mother at 100 Market St.
Police had gone to the apartment following a call from a neighbor saying a loud noise and moaning had ben heard coming from the apartment.
Taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital, the boy died after efforts to revive him failed.
An autopsy was done in Albany and the results have not yet been made public.
Police say they await the results, since the cause of death was not immediately apparent.
