COLTON -- The Friends of Higley Flow State Park have kicked off a $15,000 fundraising appeal for a new snowmobile groomer for use at Higley Flow State Park. Those wishing to contribute can do so through the Friend’s website, Higleyfriends.org.
Neither the park nor the Friends group owns trail-grooming equipment.
Although there have been three snowmobiles used at the park for the last several seasons, one belongs to St. Lawrence University and the other two are privately owned by Ed and Judy Fuhr, who have donated their time and equipment for over two decades.
Two of vehicles are nearing the end of their useful life, the club said.
“As a result, it has become clear to the Friends of Higley Flow that in order to maintain the level of excellence associated with the trails at the park, it will be necessary to expand the number of volunteers actually involved in the grooming work,” a statement from the club said. “It is also important to maintain continuity in the fleet by introducing new equipment on a schedule that allows for proper planning and avoids unexpected outlays.”
For further information regarding the groomer campaign or the Friends group, contact Tom French at 265-1351, visit the website at www.higleyfriends.org., or call the park office at 262-2880.
