MASSENA -- Village police charged a fugitive from Maryland who is on parole for an armed robbery charge and allegedly possessed a loaded, illegal pistol when taken into custody.
David B. Smullen, 27, of 60 Liberty Ave. Apt. B, Massena was charged on a fugitive warrant from Maryland and with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
Smullen absconded from his parole for conspiracy to commit armed robbery, according to court documents.
Police, who were aware he was wanted in Maryland, spotted him walking on Sycamore Street on Tuesday afternoon, court documents state. He ditched the coat he was wearing, which police found, and inside of it discovered a SCCY CPX-2 9mm handgun with eight rounds in the magazine, court documents state.
Smullen was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald Sharlow. He is being held at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton, in lieu of $10,000 bail or $20,000 bond on the weapon charge and without bail on the fugitive warrant.
