OGDENSBURG – State funding of $25,000 included in the budget is headed to Ft. La Presentation for work on the Piquet monument to integrate it into the new trail project at the fort.
Sate Assembly Member Addie Russell (D-Theresa), who represents all St. Lawrence County towns along the St. Lawrence River (Massena, Ogdensburg, Louisville, Waddington, Lisbon, Oswegatchie, Morristown, and Hammond) plus the towns of Canton, Potsdam, Rossie, Macomb, and DePeyster, and northern Jefferson County not including Watertown, announced the grant at the fort site Wednesday, explaining that it supplements the $500,000 for the trail project obtained through the North Country Regional Economic Development Council.
“Heritage tourism is one of the strong parts of our economy,” Russell said, and explained that the fort project and other things such as the proposed expansion of the airport at Ogdensburg have the potential to bring people to the North Country.
“Things are coming together to complement each other to attract more people to the area,” Russell said.
