Frigid temperatures returning to St. Lawrence County; wind chill could drop to -22

Frigid, below-zero temperatures are returning tonight, although conditions should not be quite as cold as they were one week ago.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook warning for St. Lawrence County residents warning wind chill values may approach -20 degrees tonight as an Arctic front moves southeast across the North Country.

Today’s high should be near 17 in Potsdam, 16 in Ogdensburg and Gouverneur and 15 in Massena, with west winds around 8 miles per hour. Less than an inch of snow is expected, the weather service says.

Tonight, the low will be around -12 in Ogdensburg, -10 in the central portion of the county and -8 in Massena, but the wind chill should make it feel colder than that with west winds between 5 and 8 mph later becoming calm. In Ogdensburg, the wind chill value could go as low as -22, the weather service says.

Monday, the weather service predicts mostly sunny skies, with a high near 12 in Potsdam, 11 in Ogdensburg and 10 in Massena. However, wind chill values could go as low as -9 in Potsdam and -18 in Massena.

Monday Night, expect mostly cloudy mostly cloudy condition, with a low around -5. Wind chill values could be as low as -16, weather service says.

Tuesday: A chance of snow, mainly after 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 16.
