Friends of Nature Center accepting applications for scholarship to Massena High School senior

MASSENA -- The Friends of the Nature Center in Massena are once again awarding the Dave Corse Scholarship to a graduating senior at Massena High School.

Applications are available through the high school guidance office. Students entering college and majoring in areas of environmental education, recreation, forestry or a related area of study are invited to complete the application as soon as possible. The deadline is May 7.

The scholarship of $500 will be awarded at the Massena High School awards program on June 6.

Dave Corse was a long-time volunteer and advocate of the Nature Center at Robert Moses State Park in Massena. He volunteered as an environmental educator and led many programs for school groups and special interest groups at the center. He especially loved to snowshoe and teach visitors “back to the land” skills and outdoor survival. He worked for state parks and the DEC for more than 30 years.

The Friends of the Nature Center wish Dave Corse’s legacy will live on each year as a graduating senior chooses to make a positive impact in environmental studies.

For more info, contact the guidance office at Massena High School, 764-3700, or the Nature Center, 705-5022.
