GOUVERNEUR -- Friends 4 Pound Paws, Inc. of Gouverneur, received $1,500 from the ASPCA and Subaru “Share the Love” Event Rescue Ride grant program.
The initiative funds the transportation of rescued animals to partner shelters.
Friends 4 Pound Paws is a non-profit organization and a feline and all breed canine rescue.
The group created a foster care program to help save the dogs that have been scheduled for death. They also accept owner surrenders of unwanted animals when foster homes are available.
Friends 4 Pound Paws promotes spaying and neutering as a general ideal, and spays and neuters all dogs and cats that are of age at time of adoption, or enter into a neuter contract with the new adopting families.
Based upon 2015 numbers, it is anticipated that Friends 4 Pound Paws will transport more than 30 dogs in 2016.
The grant funds will assist their transporting abandoned and relinquished dogs to partner shelters where they will receive additional exposure and are more likely to be adopted quickly.
Working with their rescue partners, Helping Hounds, the Potsdam Human Society and James H. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, Friends 4 Pound Paws has successfully relocated many dogs that are now in their forever homes.
