Freeze is on again, and rain, sleet, snow to fall; high wind warning tonight, tomorrow

Our on-again, off-again winter turns to the chilly side tonight and it will stay below freezing probably through the weekend, the National Weather Service predicts.

A high wind warning has been posted through Wednesday, and with freezing temperatures following rain and sleet, the fear of more damage to trees and power lines has been raised.

Rain today will turn to rain and sleet and then rain and snow tonight before it finally settles into snow showers, with lows around 10 degrees tonight. Accumulations probably won't amount to more than an inch, but west winds tonight could gust up to 60 mph before tapering off.

Snow is expected tomorrow morning, and temperatures will fall somewhat during the day tomorrow to about 7, as wind gusts reach about 23 mph, so wind chills could get into minus territory.

By Wednesday night, the precipitation should be gone, and it will be partly cloudy as temps drop to minus 3 with light to moderate winds.

Thursday, there is a 30 percent chance of snow with highs in the mid-20s and partly cloudy skies later in the day.

Thursday night the chance of snow rises to about 60 percent, with lows in the mid-single digits.

We can expect some sunshine on Friday with highs about 11 degrees, NWS says, and a 30 percent chance of snow Friday night with lows a little below zero.
