Comrades of Hope and Dr. Sally White will sponsor a free naloxone training on Sunday, July 23, at noon at the Massena Community Center, 61 Beach St.

Naloxone, sometimes marketed under the name brand Narcan, is a medication that can reverse the effects of an opiate or opioid overdose.

Participants will receive a free nasal overdose/opioid protection kit. No experience is necessary.

Training is less than one hour.

There is no risk of misusing naloxone. It only works on someone who has used opioids.

White is from the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) and regularly leads naloxone training events.

No registration is needed for this confidential training.

More info: comradesofhope.com or find the group on Facebook.

Comrades of Hope is a support group for those having loved ones, current or deceased, suffering from the effects of the disease of addiction.

They meet on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Massena Community Center.

Their July meetings are July 13 and July 27.

Meetings are free/confidential. Their purpose is “to educate and bring hope,” according to an email announcing their July meetings.
