St. Lawrence County could see an influx of out-of-area snowmobilers next month to take advantage of chance to sled through the North Country without state fees.
A free snowmobiling weekend is set in communities across New York Jan. 16-18 for all out-of-state snowmobilers. Registration fees will be waived for properly registered and insured out-of-state
“New York State offers some of the best snowmobile experiences in the country. Our 230 snowmobile clubs work tirelessly to provide you a great snowmobile experience on our 10,500 miles of trail. I am confident that if you visit the state once to snowmobile, you will be back many times in the future. We thank the Governor for this initiative that will bring more snowmobilers to the state and bring more economic activity to the businesses that depend on our sport,” said Jim Elmore NYSSA President.
The weekend of January 16-18 will be used to encourage out-of-state residents to sled in New York. State registration fees will be waived from 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, through 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 18for properly registered and insured out-of-state snowmobilers who wish to take part in the free weekend.
Out-of-state snowmobilers are reminded that they must have a valid registration from their home state and comply with NYS’s requirement for liability coverage .
The announcement comes after Governor Andrew Cuomo launched a $50 million tourism initiative during the third annual New York State Tourism Summit.
“We applaud Governor Cuomo and his efforts to support tourism growth in New York State,” said NYSSA Executive Director, Dominic Jacangelo. “Snowmobiling is a family-friendly winter activity that gives people a unique opportunity to see New York’s amazing views on the more than 10,500 miles of snowmobile trails.”
