POTSDAM --- Canton-Potsdam Hospital will offer Narcan (Naxolone) training April 20 from 2 until 4 p.m. in the 20 Cottage Street conference room.

On April 1, 2006, a law was enacted in New York State allowing non-medical persons to administer Naloxone (Narcan) to another individual to prevent an opioid/heroin overdose from becoming fatal.

While Narcan is not a treatment substitute, it is a prescription medication that reverses an overdose by blocking heroin or other opioids in the brain for 30-90 minutes, a critical window of time to access emergency medical treatment.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions about substance abuse treatments from detox, rehab, outpatient, and intensive inpatient care personnel.

This training is free and open to the public, however seating is limited.

Contact Deborah Lauther at 261-5413, or dchaselauther@cphospital.org by April 19 to reserve your seat.
