Frederic Remington Art Museum announces Public’s Choice Award from Members’ Juried Art Exhibit

OGDENSBURG -- The Frederic Remington Art Museum has announced the Public’s Choice Award from the 2018 Members’ Juried Art Exhibit, which was on display from May 19 through Sept. 9.

The 2018 Public’s Choice Award went to Gilda J. Silva of Ogdensburg for Falling Pie, 2017. Silva was awarded a museum wrapped canvas print of Frederic Remington’s Antoine’s Cabin, 1890.

Juror Margaret Jacobs selected three other prize winners from the art included in the exhibition. Third place went to Raymond Whalen of South Colton for Sleeping in Child’s Pose, 2016, pencil on paper; 2nd place to Annie Dalton of Perth, ON for Hunter Beans, 2017, acrylic on canvas; and Best in Show went to Doug McDonald of Ogdensburg for Fishing Village Spirit, 2017, plains cottonwood.

The exhibition featured 53 works by 50 artists, including the following St. Lawrence County residents:

Ravinder Agarwal, Dianne Drayse Alonso, Gary Baker, Eric Drayse, McDonald, Silva, Thomas Robarge, Mary Marcinko, Barre Hall, all of Ogdensburg;

Craig Chevalier of Massena;

Vicky Hollis and Beverly J. Patchin, both of Lisbon;

Kathleen Kelly of Morristown;

David Crowell, Samantha Johnson and Christopher Miller, all of Canton;

Suzan McDermott of Gouverneur;

Jeff Davis, Kevin Gibbins and Paul Norman Pedersen, all of Hermon;

Pat Harrington of Norwood; and

Suzanne Langelier Lebeda and Whalen, both of South Colton;

Five of the works were sold. One third of the proceeds benefit the Frederic Remington Art Museum, and two thirds go to the artist.
