POTSDAM -- Frary Funeral Home has added a medical transport and monuments sales location on State Highway 56 with the goal of opening funeral home within the next couple of years.

The new office, 6595 State Highway 56, opened a few weeks ago as a home base for customers looking for medical transportation in St. Lawrence County, across the state and even to nearby states.

Owner Ryan Frary says that “within the next two years” the business will look to open their second funeral home location. They have a funeral home at 515 Caroline St., Ogdensburg.

For now, they are taking it slow as they have “a lot of projects going on.” he said.

Ryan is in the process of transitioning to owner of the business from his father, Michael.

Frary’s claims to be the largest wheelchair and stretcher transport company in St. Lawrence County.

They now have offices in Ogdensburg, Massena, Canton, Potsdam, Malone and Watertown. Vehicles are stored in Ogdensburg and Massena.

They are available 25 hours a day and seven days a week and travel any distance.

Private insurance does not cover the cost, but Medicaid does, he said. Cash and credit cards are accepted.

Frary’s makes monuments locally in Ogdensburg and delivers them too, he said. Monument services include cleaning, final dates, and repairs.

In 1987, Michael and Anne Frary bought the business and changed the name to Lalonde Briggs Frary Funeral Home. The name was shortened and is currently known as Frary Funeral Home & Cremation Services. In 1990, Michael started the Frary Monument Company and in 1994, Frary Medical Transport was incorporated.

In 1995, Frary Monument Company acquired Carter Memorial and moved it to 515 Caroline St. to expand selection.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or by appointment. More info: 393-1414.
