Fourth of July celebrations planned in Morristown, Massena, Norwood, Hannawa Falls, Gouverneur

Several towns throughout St. Lawrence County will celebrate the nation’s independence with fireworks and more.

Morristown will again host its annual field days with fireworks on July 3. On July 4 the Morristown Fire Department will host tractor pulls, fireworks and a large parade featuring local marching bands. St. Lawrence Centre in Massena plans live music, face painting, fireworks and more on July 3.

Norwood will also host a massive parade, fireworks and live entertainment. Hannawa Falls and Gouverneur will provide fireworks displays to celebrate the holiday.

Morristown

The Morristown Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual field days in celebration of the Independence Day beginning June 29.

Fire chief Kevin Crosby said the annual auction will be held at 11 a.m. June 29 at the fire station. New and used items will be sold.

Events continue July 3 at dusk with a fireworks display at fireman's field just off Route 37 in Morristown.

A parade will begin July 4 at 10 a.m. with the precession lining up on Chapman Street and then traveling down Main Street. High school bands from Morristown, Heuvelton and Ogdensburg Free Academy will compete during the parade.

Crosby said events continue throughout the day at 11:30 a.m. with a chicken barbecue at the fire hall.

An antique tractor pull, kids games and 50/50 raffle will also be held. Concessions will be provided by the fire department.

Crosby said the event is the fire department's biggest fundraiser and is instrumental in keeping the organization going.

"We really appreciate the community's support and encourage everyone to come down," he said. "It's one of those events where you get to see people and run into old friends. It's a great time for everyone," he said.

Crosby asked dog owners to leave their pets at home as they are prohibited on village property during the celebration.

The department will be collecting donations to offset the cost of the parade and fireworks.

Massena

The St. Lawrence Centre mall on NYS Hwy. 37 will celebrate Independence Day July 3 with a live music, pony rides, bounces houses fireworks and more.

Live musical performances by Into the Black and Paparazzi Scandal and other groups will be presented from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Mix 96.1 will broadcast live from 1 to 3 p.m. and 101.5 the Fox will broadcast live from 3 to 6 p.m.

Adults can enjoy a "beverage garden" provided by Vino Vidi Vici from 5 to 11 p.m. while kids play in variety of bounce equipment from 4 to 9 p.m. Free skating will be open to the public from 7:15 to 9 p.m. Face painting from 5 to 8 p.m., Massena Rescue Squad and Fire Department demonstrations from 5 to 7 p.m., pony rides by Breezy Maples Farm from 4 to 9 p.m. and a variety of other activities will also be offered. The Mr. Ding-a-Ling ice cream truck will be site from 4 to 10:30 p.m.

Events run from 1 p.m. until dusk, when Majestic Fireworks will provide the "largest fireworks display in St. Lawrence County."

Norwood

The 78th Annual Norwood Fire Department Field Day Events begin July 3 on the Village Green with music, games and more.

The Norwood Brass Firemen will offer a concert in the park from 7 to 9 p.m. followed by a performance from "Six-foot Midgets." Cubby T. Clown and Cuddles will be entertain while face painting and balloon animal sculptors perform in the park from 7 to 9 p.m.

On July 4 a parade featuring more than 70 units will begin at 1 p.m. on Maple Street. The participants will travel down Spring Street ending at Firemen’s Field, Morgan Street.

The parade this year is in honor of two past members of the Norwood fire department, including Marlyn Edwards and Emmett Regan, who organized the parade for many years. In their memory the 2013 parade will be dedicated as “The Marlyn Edwards/Emmett Regan Memorial Parade.”

Cubby T. Clown and Co. will also offer face painting and animal balloon sculpturing before and during the parade at the Village Green. Immediately following the parade, the Antwerp Original Yanks will perform in the Village Green.

Concessions will be provided by the fire department and donations will be accepted to offset the cost of the fireworks and the parade.

Lawnmower races and a demolition derby will be held at 2:30 p.m.

Cubby T. Clown and Co. will perform at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The annual field day will end with one of the biggest firework displays in St. Lawrence County.

This fireworks display costs the Norwood Fire Dept. over $5,500. Donations for these fireworks can be made to Norwood Vol. Fire Department, PO Box 231, Norwood, NY 13668. Perry’s Big M has donated $1,000 for these fireworks.

Hannawa Falls

In Hannawa Falls Robert Plumb Memorial Fireworks will be held at dusk, Saturday July 6 at Postwood Park. Viewing spots are available along Route 56.

Gouverneur

Thursday July 4,the Gouverneur Volunteer Fire Department will host a fireworks display at the fair grounds.
