COLTON — Fourteen students were on a Colton-Pierrepnt Central School bus this morning when it was struck from behind by a car at the intersection of State Highway 56 and County Route 24, according to school officials.

“Students were checked by EMTs and no injuries were reported,” said Jim Nee, Pre-k through 12th grade principal at CPCS.

The accident took place around 7:30 a.m.

Nee thanked first responders. “I was impressed by how well they controlled the scene and ensured that everyone was safe.”

Nee also thanked SNL Electric for allowing students and rescue personnel to use their building to get students checked over.

The students were transported back to the school where they met with counselors and were served breakfast, Nee said. Some parents signed their children out of school, he said.

NorthCountryNow.com will report more information as it becomes available.

A statement on the school’s Facebook page says:

“ A CPCS bus was hit from behind at the intersections of Rt. 24 and Rt. 56 this morning. This was a dangerous and significant impact situation. Fortunately, all fourteen students that were on the bus at the time were checked by first responders and reported no injuries. Students that were not picked up by their parents have been transported to school and provided an opportunity to discuss the incident to relieve any related confusion or stress.

We would like to thank the first responders and employees from nearby SNL Electric for working together to ensure the safety of our students. The school is proud to have community partners - especially in a crisis situation like this.”
