OGDENSBURG – Four people were reportedly hurt in a three-vehicle accident along State Rt. 68 near Ogdensburg Wednesday afternoon.

State police said that not long after 2 p.m., a southbound vehicle driven by Amber I. Smith, 20, of Rensselaer Falls, was unable to stop behind another vehicle, driven by Jonathan J. Pribble, 17, Ogdensburg, which was stopped with its signal on waiting to make a left turn.

Smith attempted to avoid the Pribble vehicle by going onto the shoulder, but struck the vehicle, sending it lurching into oncoming traffic, and head-on into a vehicle driven by Penni L. Bass, 36, of Hammond, according to Ogdensburg-based troopers.

Several emergency crews responded and took the four injured people to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center. The names and conditions of the injured were not released.

No tickets have reportedly been issued yet, but troopers said charges are pending the outcome of their investigation.
