MASSENA -- Two board of education seats are up for grabs in May, with four candidates seeking the posts.

One is held by board Vice President Ron Faucher, who is not seeking re-election.

Board President John Boyce will seek another five-year term.

Newcomers running for the seats, in the order they will appear in the ballot, include Bryce Cameron, Rhonda Rodriguez and Jason Premo.

Cameron and Rodriguez were at Thursday night’s meeting and said a few words about themselves during the public comment period.

Rodriguez, a 15-year district resident, said she was waiting for what she saw as a recent period of instability to pass before running for the seat.

“I am essentially running … (after) waiting the past three or four years to see some stability come back,” she said.

She was part of the committee that interviewed Pat Brady, who will take the reins as district superintendent over the summer. She said she is excited for his leadership.

“I want to be a part of that process,” she said. “I have some other issues … I’d like to pursue.”

Cameron graduated from Massena Central four years ago and says he wants to be a voice for his younger family members still attending school and his age demographic.

“I want to represent people my age,” he said. “I don’t understand why people my age who have siblings in the school district don’t get involved.”

He says he looks forward to learning all he can about what turns a school’s gears.

“Running for school board is the way to do that,” he said.
