Former St. Lawrence County sheriff Gary Jarvis died Thursday at his home.
His obituary says he was first appointed deputy sheriff in 1969. He was made undersheriff 10 years later, a position he held for 20 years.
He was first elected in 1999, his obituary says, and was with the sheriff's office for 38 years.
Graveside services are planned for the spring.
