LISBON – A former Lisbon resident is preparing to write a book focusing on his large extended family from Lisbon.
Marc Isaacs, who now lives in Texas, plans to write "Outside the Touch of Time" which will feature stories of his mother and her 13 siblings.
The “LaBrake 14,” as the siblings are sometimes called, were born between 1933 and 1955 to George LaBrake Sr. and Hilda LaBrake.
Now at or beyond age 55, all 14 brothers and sisters are alive and well and collectively serve as a rare example of longevity in an American family, which is what Isaacs said inspired the book idea.
The stories about life on the family farm pre- and post-World War II will include personal commentary about developments in St. Lawrence County, such as the building of the St. Lawrence Seaway, and show the impact of national and international events, including the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, on the lives of rural Americans, Isaacs says.
Planned content will also address how these sibling relationships have flourished at a time when other families commonly experience estrangement.
Isaacs's first published book, "Wonderdads Dallas," is an activity guide for fathers and young children in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Isaacs, son of Ron and Peg Bisnett of Lisbon, attended St. Lawrence University.
