Danielle Paul, a dental hygienist, left, and Bonnie Emburey, a dental assistant, are a part of the dental sealant program.
CANTON -- The Community Health Center of the North Country has taken over the School-Based Dental Sealant Program previously offered through St. Lawrence County.
This program provides an educational presentation, screenings, sealant placements and follow-ups for second graders who have received permission from a parent or guardian.
The program will travel to 26 schools in 15 districts, including 4 parochial schools, starting with St. Lawrence Central Elementary School in mid-September.
The Community Health Center of the North Country staff will be using mobile dental equipment to provide onsite services. If the schedule permits, third graders who did not receive services through this program the previous year will also have a chance to participate with permission from a parent or guardian.
A parental consent form providing information about the program and date will be sent home with students at each of the schools before the program’s scheduled arrival.
Dental sealants provide many oral health benefits in young children, including the prevention of tooth decay and preservation of the molars.
If you would like more information about the program, contact Bonnie Emburey at 386-8191 or bemburey@cpnorthcountry.org.
