NORWOOD -- During the July 3 block dance in Norwood, Bob Haggett was honored with a plaque mounted on the wall of the band shell in the Norwood Village Green.
Haggett has retired as the manager of the Norwood Brass Firemen after 40 years.
His efforts helped steer the band and honor his hometown through many events including the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo Yugoslavia, the Indianapolis 500 and several presidential inaugurations.
The text of the plaque reads: “Robert C. Haggett, Norwood Brass Firemen Band, Manager 1977-2016. The Norwood Brass Firemen Band has represented the Community of Norwood for over a century with various names including the Norwood Band and the Norwood Fire Department Band. Under Mr. Haggett’s management the band has played in numerous communities throughout the state, country and even internationally in Europe and Canada. The band has been a great ambassador for the Norwood community. Tim Levison, Mayor 2017.”
