CANTON -- Former village mayor Mary Anne Ashley received the Democratic nod at a recent caucus held to determine a candidate for town supervisor in Canton.

“It is with deep gratitude to extend sincere appreciation to those supporting my bid for Canton Town Supervisor,” Ashley said in a letter sent to NorthCountryNow.com.

Ashley served two terms as an elected school board member, part of that tenure as board vice president; and two terms as an elected Canton village trustee and a one term as Canton village mayor.

Ashley is now retired, but had a 35-year career in human services, working as a NYSARC case manager, Canton youth center director, county youth bureau director and a school counselor

“The volunteers that carried petitions for the independent line of the Focused on the People Party is so inspiring. The people that signed petitions, called, texted, emailed, stopped at my home, and approach me in public is clear evidence that voters are interested in having a choice for Town Supervisor. This past Thursday, the Canton Democratic Party also nominated me and I thank them with all my heart,” she said

Ashley will face long-time town supervisor David Button in the general election in November.
