Forecast: wind chills of -8 expected today in St. Lawrence County before warm front arrives for weekend

An arctic cold front moving across New York during the pre-dawn hours will usher in much colder air today with strong and gusty northwesterly winds, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Flurries will end this morning, with a few icy spots possible on roadways, NWS says. Afternoon temperatures will generally range from the upper teens to lower 20s.

Wind chill values will be as low as -8 today. The overnight low will be around 8 degrees.

High pressure in place for Thursday will result in lighter winds and moderating temperatures, the service says.

Thursday’s high will be around 34 with sunny skies, NWS says. Overnight lows on Thursday will be around 22.

A warm front will arrive on Friday with increasing clouds and mixed wintry precipitation across the North Country.

Sunny, with a high near 34. West wind 5 to 8 mph.

Increasing clouds, with a low around 22. South wind around 7 mph.

Friday

Snow and sleet likely before 1pm, then rain, snow, and sleet likely between 1pm and 2pm, then rain likely after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 39. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Friday Night

Rain likely before 2am, then a chance of rain, snow, and sleet between 2am and 3am, then a chance of snow and sleet after 3am. Cloudy, with a low around 30. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
