Forecast: Flash flood watch in effect for St. Lawrence County through Monday afternoon; power outages possible due to high winds

A flash flood watch is in effect for St. Lawrence County now though Oct. 30 at noon due to possible heavy rainfall which could be accompanied by strong, damaging winds, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

A very strong area of low pressure will impact the North Country Sunday through Monday with high winds and periods of rain, NWS says.

The greatest threat will be strong and potentially damaging wind gusts along the western slopes Sunday night followed by another round of gusty winds over Northern New York Monday afternoon, the service says.

Some power outages are possible, NWS says.

Rainfall will cause rises on streams and rivers but minimal flooding is anticipated, forecasters say.

The high today will be around 48 with a 100 percent chance of rain. Rain will continue overnight with 1 to 2 inches possible and a low around 46, NWS says.

Monday’s high is expected to be 52 with wind gusts as high as 39 miles per hour, the service says. Rain will begin to taper off Monday night, the service.

The forecast through next weekend is as follows:

Monday

Rain, mainly before 1pm, then a chance of showers after 1pm. High near 52. Breezy, with a west wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 19 to 24 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 39 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Monday Night

A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. Breezy, with a southwest wind 17 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tuesday

A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49. Breezy, with a southwest wind 18 to 21 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph.

Wednesday

Partly sunny, with a high near 49. South wind 3 to 6 mph.
