A foot of snow could fall on North Country today, tonight, Sunday; frigid cold continues

As much as a foot of snow is headed toward the St. Lawrence Valley, expected to drop between this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon.

The National Weather Service has posted a winter storm warning of severe conditions between 4 p.m. today and 4 p.m. tomorrow.

Snow will be coming up from the south late this afternoon and become heavy at times tonight into Sunday morning, and tapering off to snow showers by Sunday afternoon, according to the NWS.

It will remain cold, with highs today in the low teens and lows tonight in the single digits, and with moderate winds, the wind chill values will be down as low as minus 10 tonight. It will be a bit warmer Sunday, with highs expected in the upper teens.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

Today: A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly after 3pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 11. Wind chill values as low as -14. Northeast wind 8 to 11 mph. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tonight: Snow, mainly after 7pm. Low around 7. Wind chill values as low as -10. Northeast wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Sunday: Snow, mainly before 3pm. High near 18. Wind chill values as low as -4. Northeast wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Sunday Night: Scattered snow showers before 2am. Cloudy, with a low around -2. Wind chill values as low as -13. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Monday: Mostly sunny and cold, with a high near 8. West wind 7 to 10 mph.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around -1. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming southeast after midnight.

Tuesday: A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 23. South wind 5 to 7 mph.
