POTSDAM -- Following a theft of prescription drugs on Morningside Drive, village police are warning residents to be wary of people people coming to homes and asking to use the bathroom or get a drink of water.
Police said a white female, age 18 to 25 with dark hair and a ponytail and wearing a gray sweatshirt with a big front pocket, went to Morningside Drive houses between 11 a.m. and noon Monday and asked the homeowners to use the bathroom. When she was done, she mentioned being stranded in Potsdam.
Three homes were known to be approached and two homeowners let the female inside, police said.
Police said they believe the incident was intended to target the elderly who live alone or who those who get services from a caregiver who might not always be there. Police are asking residents to be alert for strangers coming to their homes who are unknown to them.
The Potsdam Police Department asks residents to call them at 265-2121 if they become aware of family or others who might have been approached by people they don’t know seeking to gain entrance to their homes under suspicious circumstances.
