Florida man seriously injured in freak accident in Parishville on Monday

PARISHVILLE -- A Florida man was seriously injured in a freak accident on White Hill Road yesterday.

State police report that a Saranac Lake man was driving in his Chevrolet pickup truck on White Hill Road when he lost consciousness and struck several parked vehicles along the side of the road, according to troopers.

Among the vehicles he struck was another truck, this one with paving stones in the bed. One of those stones became airborne and struck Ralph E. LaBarr of Bradenton, Fla. as he sat on the porch of a camp along the road.

The victim, Ralph E. Labarr, Bradenton, Fla., was taken first to Canton-Potsdam Hospital and then to Fletcher-Allen Health Care in Burlington. There is no word on his condition.

It was reported that the Chevy pickup came to rest against a camp building.

The driver of the pickup, William B. Reif of Saranac Lake, was not charged immediately, but is under investigation and charges are pending, according to state police.
