OGDENSBURG – Recent flooding has forced Ogdensburg ot close the city docks walkway.
The walkway along the river in the Ogdensburg Greenbelt is closed to pedestrian traffic after it was found that the boardwalk is structurally undermined due to recent flooding, a release from the city says.
Parks and Recreation Director Matthew Curatolo said the city is still assessing the damage.
"We still not even know the extent of the damage. The entire walkway at the city docks could be undermined.
What we think happened was that due to the high water levels the waves that were crashing over the city docks seeped through the pavers and washed out the dirt and gravel underneath leaving just air underneath the pavers making it extremely dangerous," he said in an email.
"Due to these concerns, we had to block off the city docks until we are to take care of this issue. At this time, we do not have any estimates on how much the repairs would cost or a timetable as to when the city is able to make these repairs."
The city dock was previously shut down and continues to be closed to motorized traffic as well.
Ogdensburg suffered significant flooding recently and for safety reasons the city docks and the boardwalk behind the Dobisky Center have been closed.
