Flash flood chances in St. Lawrence County increased with possibility of slow-moving storms in the region

The chance of flash flooding is increased today in St. Lawrence County as the National Weather Service is warning that a slow-moving air mass could produce scattered showers and thunderstorms today and tonight with some storms capable of producing strong gusty winds and very heavy downpours.

The weather service says that the relatively slow speed of the air mass and its size -- larger than any for the past several days -- could produce more rain over some areas, increasing the chance for flash floods.

Particular mention was made of the possibility of strong storm activity this afternoon and tonight in the northern Adirondacks. The intensity of any storms is expected to diminish after midnight.

The chance of precipitation in the St. Lawrence Valley is pegged at 40 percent, but thunderstorms could pop up anywhere.

It will remain warm today with highs in the low to mid 80s, and tonight, with lows expected to be about 65, before it cools a bit. Highs tomorrow are expected to be below 80 degrees.
