Five people are homeless after fire destroys home in Pitcairn

PITCAIRN — Five people are homeless after fire swept through their home Thursday afternoon, according to St. Lawrence County fire investigators.

The Harrisville Fire Department and Gouverneur Rescue Squad responded to the blaze at 969 State Highway 812 at 12:40 p.m., investigators said.

The home was delcared a total loss, investigators said.

Officials said there were no injuries reported and that the cause of the fire is still under investigation .

Mutual aid was provided by Gouverneur, Fine and Edwards fire departments with Star Lake on stand-by, officials said.

The home was reportedly owned by Marletha and Raymond Hughto and the building was insured, investigators said.
