MASSENA -- Less than a day into the summer North Country residents are experiencing temperatures in the low 90s accompanied by high levels of humidity.
The extreme weather has prompted the Massena Volunteer Fire Department to take precautions.
The Massena Fire Station will be open Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as a public cooling station. Massena Police Chief Timothy J. Currier issued a release stating that the station would be available for anyone that is having difficulty dealing with the extreme heat.
Massena Fire Department staff will be on hand to help anyone suffering from heat related problems.
Water will be available to keep people hydrated. Should the need arise medical assistance will be called in.
