WADDINGTON – A go-kart derby, parade and fireworks display are just some of the events set for the weekend of Aug. 5 at Waddington’s homecoming celebration.
The weekend draws hundreds to the small village and features live music, vendors, fair food and other events.
Friday
The fun kicks off Friday with a book sale from 9 to 3 p.m. at the library. A pet show will be held at 10 a.m. followed by a teddy bear picnic at the town beach. At 1 p.m. a sand castle contest will be held.
An ice cream social runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Methodist church and a firemen’s dedication will be held at 5:30 p.m.
At 6 p.m. the opening ceremony will take place at Whitaker Park. Events continue from 6:30 to 11 p.m. with a diaper derby, lip sync contest and music from Amy Mayette River and the Acoustic Brothers.
Saturday
Things will pick back up at 7 a.m. Saturday with a pancake breakfast at the American Legion. A 5k run begins at 9 a.m., as does the Waddington Library’s book sale.
At 10 a.m. a no octane “Go Kart Derby” will take place on Main Street. Meanwhile there will be a car show, craft show and art market available for visitors.
A barbecue will be held at the Martin Civic Center at 11 a.m. followed by Mack’s Annual Bed Races on Main Street at 2:30 p.m.
Bounce Houses and water slides will also be open to the public all day.
The annual parade will take place at 6 p.m. followed by a performance by the Double Barrel Blues band. The duck draw will also be held at this time.
Fireworks will take place at dusk.
Sunday
At 9 a.m. a church service will be held by the United Methodist Church followed by a community picnic, catered the Seaway Diner, at the beach at noon.
