Fires in Rensselaer Falls and Morristown completely destroy home, barn; lightning blamed in at least one blaze

A lightning storm was blamed for the destruction of a Morristown barn and investigators are looking for details regarding a house fire that destroyed a home in Rensselaer Falls.

Lightning caused a blaze that destroyed a barn located at 483 Gilmour Rd., according to Morristown fire officials.

Morristown firefighters responded at 10:04 p.m. along with mutual aid from Heuvelton, Hammond, Brier Hill, Gouverneur, and Lisbon, officials said.

The barn was reportedly owned by Robert Gilmour and it was not insured, according to officials.

Ogdensburg, Lisbon, Waddington, Rensselaer Falls, Redwood, and Alexandria Bay fire departments were all on standby.

No injuries were reported.

Rensselaer Falls firefighters responded to a report of a house fire at 1:25 a.m. on 207 Front St., investigators said.

The home was determined a total loss but no injuries were reported, according to investigators.

Mutual aid was provided by DeKalb Junction, Canton, Morley, Brier Hill, and Morristown fire departments.

The home is reportedly owned by Wendy Clark.

Departments on standby included Lisbon, Pierrepont, West Potsdam, Richville, Hermon, Waddington, and Louisville.

Investigators said the cause of the fire remains under investigation and it is not known if the residence was insured.
