FOWLER -- Volunteer firefighters from departments in Gouverneur, Edwards, Harrisville and Richville battled a blaze to a barn in Fowler while enduring explosions from vehicles and oil drums.

No injuries were reported, but at least seven vehicles and the storage barn were destroyed.

One nearby occupied mobile home suffered some heat damage to its siding, but it and another occupied mobile home, along with a large nearby steel structure, were saved, according to Gouverneur firefighter and St. Lawrence County Fire Investigator Joe Lacks.

Firefighters were there for three and a half hours.

Lacks says they are still not sure what touched off the blaze.

The fire was spotted by a passerby at about midnight.

Fire companies from Gouverneur, Edwards, Harrisville and Richville were dispatched at 12:07 a.m. to property at 1491 County Rte. 22 (Little York Road), which is owned by Harry and Sid Harmer.
