POTSDAM — Firefighters battled a blaze and extreme weather conditions Monday night on following a reported chimney fire that left a Larnard Street home with heavy fire damage, according to the Potsdam Fire Department.
The Potsdam Fire Department said they received a call at 11:12 p.m. and were on scene three minutes later.
The fire was on the second flood of 20 Larnard Street.
Heavy fire was showing at the peak of the roof in the rear of the building, Potsdam fire said.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the attic and rear of the second floor. There was smoke and water damage in much of the building.
Firefighters from West Potsdam, West Stockholm and Norwood were all on scene.
The Parishville Fire Department was on standby at the Potsdam station.
Also on scene was the Potsdam Rescue Squad, Potsdam Police Department, Village of Potsdam DPW, St. Lawrence County Deputy Fire/EMS coordinator, National Grid and St. Lawrence Gas.
The building is owned by Dennis Mahrer and Alexander Kovacs lived there.
The battle continued as sleet and snow come down on firefighters during the fire.
The building was reportedly not insured.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the St. Lawrence County Fire Investigation Team.
Potsdam fire was back in service at 4:39 a.m.
