HEUVELTON -- One firefighter was injured and several buildings including a house were destroyed by fire Friday night.
The fire was at least in part fed by a ruptured fuel tank after the fire started in a garage and spread to the other attached buildings at 130 Newcomb Rd., property owned by Robert Gagnon. Two people are listed as occupants.
Heuvelton firefighters were called out at 7:56 p.m., followed quickly by Ogdensburg and Rensselaer Falls rescue units and fire departments from Gouverneur, DeKalb, Rensselaer Falls, Richville, Morristown, Lisbon and Hermon. Morely, Oxbow, Edwards and Canton volunteers were on standby.
Department of Environmental Conservation personnel were also called due to the fuel leak.
Investigators said the fire began in the garage, but the actual cause is still under investigation.
The condition of the injured firefighter was not immediately reported.
The structures lost are reportedly covered by insurance.
