DEKALB -- A fire said to be started on top of a stove left three people homeless Wednesday morning at 1225 Maple Ridge Rd., according to St. Lawrence County Fire Investigators.
The house was reportedly being occupied by Jacob Birchland, Kristen Gilson, and Gracie Wilson.
DeKalb Junction Fire Department and Hermon Rescue Squad responded to the blaze at 8:03 a.m. with mutual aid from the Richville, Gouverneur, Rensselaer Falls, and Hermon fire departments, investigators said.
The damage to the house was considered moderate to heavy, officials said.
The house is owned by Brian Cook, Fine, and Cathy Sharpstein, Ogdensburg, investigators said.
The property owners reportedly had insurance and but the occupants did not have renters insurance, officials said.
DeKalb firefighters were back in the station at 12:11 p.m.
