MASSENA -- A Tuesday morning garage fire completely destroyed the structure and took new a car with it, according to Massena Fire Department Chief Bill Kearns.
He said a neighbor called in the fire around 8:15 a.m. at 32 Roosevelt St.
“It was fully engulfed when we got there, really cooking," Kearns said. "It was pretty much a total loss."
He said the flames damaged siding on garages on either side and melted siding on the residence.
He said the blaze also destroyed a recently purchased car inside the garage, a Chevrolet Equinox.
County fire investigators determined the cause cause came from a malfunctioning freezer inside the garage, Kearns said.
