OGDENSBURG — Three homes were affected by a fire at 930 Franklin St. that left two people homeless Wednesday afternoon, according to Ogdensburg Professional Firefighters Local 1799 Assistant Chief Ronald Bouchard.
Two people reportedly escaped out a back door after the blaze was discovered near the front porch at about 1:30 p.m.
Once on scene, firefighters first worked to contain the fire as it was spreading to both neighboring homes, Bouchard said.
Siding on the neighbors’ houses was melted, but firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading to other structures.
The 930 Franklin St. home is considered a total loss.
“Fire was shooting out the windows,” Bouchard said.
He noted the hot temperatures were difficult to deal with, but the wind was causing the blaze to spread.

Fire investigators believe the fire originated somewhere near the porch but no official cause has been listed.
DPW tore off the front of the porch after firefighters extinguished the blaze, Bouchard said.
One fireman who arrived to the scene late and was helping with cleanup suffered a laceration to his hand on piece of metal, Bouchard said.
The Red Cross provided emergency relief to the victims of the fire.
Heuvelton firefighters were on scene along with Ogdensburg Rescue.
