Fire volunteers tend what is left of a camp in Fine after it was destroyed by fire Tuesday morning
STAR LAKE – Fire has destroyed a two-story hunting camp in Star Lake believed to be owned by a group of Syracuse firefighters.
Star Lake volunteers were called out at 7:26 this morning, followed by firefighters from Fine and Newton Falls and Star Lake Rescue, to the end of Youngs Road, where a large camp was discovered burning by a Town of Fine worker. They could not save the camp, a two-story structure whose stone foundation and walls were about all that was left, according to investigators on the scene.
The cause of the blaze has not been determined. Investigators said they have been trying to contact the owners, believed to be a group of firefighters from Syracuse.
St. Lawrence County Fire Investigators said they have heard reports from neighbors that some people spent last weekend there, which might lead to finding what started the fire.
No one was reported hurt.
