HEUVELTON -- Two pets were claimed in a fire that left a family homeless Tuesday morning.
Firefighters have not determined what caused the fire that destroyed a home at 628 County Route 4, owned by Tim Simmons.
Four occupants were home, but were not injured in the fire.
Heuvelton volunteer firefighters were assisted by Morristown and Lisbon fire departments and Ogdensburg Rescue Squad at 10 a.m.
The fire was extinguished by 1:45 p.m.
Investigators said the home was a total loss and dog and cat were also killed in the fire.
Waddington, Brier Hill and Rensselaer Falls fire departments provided mutual aid.
National Grid and the American Red Cross also responded to the scene.
The home was insured.
