NORWOOD -- A house fire in Norwood last night has destroyed the upstairs of Bernard Street house and resulted in an investigation by the St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force.
The fire seemed to start in an upstairs back bedroom at 3 Bernard Ave., according to Norwood Fire Chief Roy Garrow.
The cause of the blaze is undetermined at this time and will be looked into by the St. Lawrence County Fire Investigation Team, Garrow said. He said the Norwood volunteers were called out at about 8:35 p.m. Tuesday, backed up by the Potsdam and Norfolk departments, with help from West Potsdam as standby and as a contributor of Scott air tanks at the scene.
The St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force was advised by a county deputy at the scene that something there warranted a look by task force members, said Task Force Sgt. Brandon Storie.
“Our response followed a call from a sheriff’s deputy who said there might be some issues with the fire,” Storie said.
The task force responded and executed a search warrant at the scene.
Storie wouldn’t discuss the evidence. He said no arrests have been made so far but the investigation continues.
