COLTON -- A fire at the Wesleyan Church parsonage in Colton has been put out, but "extensive damage" to the building is reported.
Fire investigator Brian Sullivan said the fire began on the first floor of the parsonage on Maple Street, State Rt. 56 through Colton, but was waiting for completion of an investigation before he would speak about a possible cause for the blaze.
He said there was "extensive damage" to the structure.
The turnout for the fire was large. Firefighters from Colton, Parishville, Pierrepont, Potsdam and Hannawa Falls reported to the scene to battle the blaze, and Hopkinton volunteers were on standby at Parishville.
Sullivan wasn't certain about the time the alarm came in, but said it had been a couple of hours before the fire was declared extinguished this afternoon.
Sullivan said no one was hurt, and everyone was out of the house when the blaze began.
The family dog was removed in good shape, Sullivan said.
