NORFOLK -- A fire caused by an electrical heater in Norfolk resulted in the total loss of a building and the death of several pets Sunday.
A fire at 26 S. Main St., owned by Seth Hamm and Josie Paige, was reported at 5:10 a.m., according to officials. The building had seven occupants.
The Norfolk fire and rescue squads responded, with Louisville, Waddington, and Potsdam on standby, officials said.
Norwood, Louisville, Madrid, Massena, Potsdam, West Potsdam, and West Stockholm provided mutual aid.
The fire resulted in a total loss of the structure, officials said. No injuries were reported, but two dogs and two cats were killed.
The building had smoke detectors, but they did not activate, according to investigators.
The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross and the fire is being investigated by the St. Lawrence County Fire Investigation Team, officials said.
The structure was insured, investigators said.
