Finishings Trades Institute of Western and Central New York recruiting painters, decorators and more

The Finishing Trades Institute of Western and Central New York (Oswego) will conduct a recruitment from March 5, 2018 through March 1, 2019 for four painter, decorator, & paperhanger apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Please note that openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for both the Central and North Country regions. This program’s jurisdiction includes the counties of Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, and St. Lawrence.

Applications can be obtained on the Finishing Trades’ website, www.dc4.org, and mailed to: FTI of W & CNY, 585 Aero Drive, Cheektowaga 14225. Applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview. Applications must be received no later than 03/1/19.

The Committee requires that applicants:

Must be at least 17 years old.

Must attest in writing that they are physically capable of performing the work of the trade, which may include:

Climbing and working from ladders, scaffolds, poles, and towers.

Crawling and working in confined spaces.

Lifting and carrying 50 to 100 pounds.

Walking fast on level surfaces.

Must pass a drug screening, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.

Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license. Apprentices may be required to operate company vehicles.

Must have access to reliable transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction. Job sites are throughout western New York. Related instruction will be in Buffalo, New York, at one-week intervals, four times each year.

Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.

Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
