Fifteen non-profit agencies in St. Lawrence County will split $80,316 from the United Way to support their programs.
The funds were generated by business campaigns, individual giving, corporate gifts, state employee campaigns and additional funding provided by the United Way, the group said.
“I was also happy to see that our board voted to provide grants to two new United Way partners, the Boys and Girls Club of Massena and GardenShare,” United Way CEO Bob Gorman said. “We receive many individual and corporate gifts, but payroll deduction continues to generate most of the money we raise … when businesses, schools and hospitals run United Way campaigns, we see dramatic increases in what we are able to do for the working poor of the region.”
Those receiving grants include:
Massena Salvation Army $11,000
Boy & Girls Club of Massena $3,000
Girl Scouts NYPenn $2,500
Senior Citizens Council $700
Volunteer Transportation $5,800
Ogdensburg Salvation Army $5,000
Catholic Charities $11,500
Ogdensburg Boys & Girls Club $6,516
American Red Cross $5,500
Massena Salvation Army $2,000
Renewal House $8,000
St. Law. CDP $11,000
ACR Health $6,000
Garden Share $1,800
Salvation Army, Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club and Renewal House received 100 percent of their grant requests, United Way said.
